Law Minister Salman Khursheed favours AMU in Kishanganj

The long drawn AMU Kishanganj deadlock seems to get a solution in the recent time. Hopes came alive for tens of thousands of people residing in Seemanchal area of Bihar after the meeting of AMUCC (Aligarh Muslim University Coordination Committee) with Law – Justice & Minority Affairs Minister Salman Khursheed on Monday (April 9, 2012). Despite his busy schedule, the Union Minister had given appointment to AMUCC team, which is a non political group of working professionals and students residing in Delhi and other parts of country including abroad.

AMUCC team with Union Minister Salman Khursheed

When in the evening most of the ministers remain busy in their personal commitments, Salman Khursheed without caring about his personal comfort preferred to listen the plea of AMUCC delegation comprising 20 members. Khursheed had a brief introduction with the delegation led by Convenor Mohammad Aslam and had other members Mohammad Mudassir Alam, Khalid Mubashshir, Soban M Ahmad, Rashid Ahmad, Tauqir Alam, Zamir Iqbal, Sarwer Alam, Jawed Iqbal, Jahangir Alam, Murteza Iqbal, Wasim Akhtar and Nasim Alam.

In fact, it seemed that the Minister himself is interested in the controversial issues of AMU Kishanganj and he had patiently listened to the group Convenor Mohammad Aslam. The Congress leader spent around 2 hours with the AMUCC delegates at his official residence at 4 Kushak Road in New Delhi. Khursheed told that the matter of AMU centres is pending with Allahabad High Court. However, AMUCC team was having the copy of Allahabad High Court judgment, describing the fact that there is no any stay order against opening Study centres of AMU outside Aligarh. Further, Khursheed told that the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has an acting Vice Chancellor so the matter of AMU Kishanganj is pending with Ministry of HRD for President’s approval and other formalities. The AMUCC delegates informed the Law Minister that the former VC of AMU Prof Abdul Azis had already written to MHRD to fulfill the formalities regarding AMU Centre in Kishanganj, hence as of now there is no any need to get the fresh request for the Vice Chancellor of University.

The Minority Affairs minister discussed all the issues related with proposed AMU centres outside Kishanganj. It should be noted that the Visitor’s approval and fund allocation for AMU Centre in Kishanganj formalities can be fulfilled only with the involvement of Union Ministry of HRD. The AMUCC delegates urged Salman Khursheed to have a talk with Kapil Sibal to take action on the pending issues and fulfillment of official formalities. The Minority Affairs Minister had ensured to the AMUCC delegation that he would personally talk with Kapil Sibal for pushing ahead the pending work of proposed AMU Centre in Kishanganj.

AMUCC delegates met Khursheed as part of the group’s routine political lobbying work to push ahead the Central Government for providing Visitor’s (President of India) approval and fund allocation for the AMU Centre in Kishanganj. After meeting with the Cabinet Minister the group was highly optimistic for immediate solution of the AMU Kishanganj deadlock. Even the people of the Seemanchal area in Bihar have start celebrating after the fruitful meeting of AMUCC with Khursheed. Hope the dream of proposed AMU Centre in Kishanganj will be a reality soon.
