Here is a worrying news for the district of Kishanganj and the region of Seemanchal in Bihar. The District Aids Control Committee (DACC) of Kishanganj has revealed that 1,039 people of the district have been detected positive. Out of the alarming figure, 43 couples have been detected HIV positive in the district. The figures of HIV in Kishanganj are really a matter of concern and it will possibly increase in the coming time.

Unawareness is the main reason behind the rapid increase in HIV cases in the north-eastern district of Bihar. There are 3 main causes for HIV infection, namely 1) Through transfer of infected blood from HIV positive person to another person through injection or blood transfer 2) By unsafe sex with HIV infected man and women 3) From the HIV infected mother to newly born baby. The majority of people in remote area are unaware about the silent killer HIV. The District Aids Control Committee (DACC) of Kishanganj had run various awareness campaigns in the district. The posters displaying the concern of youths were installed at various points especially hospitals, colleges, chowks, etc. of Kishanganj district headquarters in the past. However, the campaign could not reach to the villages of Kishanganj.

The migrant labourers working in the metros like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and other big cities have also carried the Virus to Kishanganj. The Virus of HIV has also entered to Kishanganj from the pierced boundary of Nepal.  Need of the hour is that the District Authority and Government of Bihar should launch a pilot awareness programme in the area of Seemanchal. Unless this area of Bihar will surely see a rapid increase in the number of HIV positive people.
