Terrhagachh Block – A Neglected Part of Kishanganj, a dejected Najeeb shares grievances

0
One of the seven blocks of Kishanganj, Terrhagachh is situated in north-western part of the district. Literally meaning the ‘bended tree’, Terrhagachh is about 45 kms from the district headquarters of Kishanganj. Distances of other noted places of Kishanganj district from Terrhagachh are Kochadhaman (27 km), Dighalbank (16 km) and Bahadurganj (19 km). Terrhagachh comprises of villages namely Baigna, Bhorha, Chilahnia, Dak Pokhar, Dhabeli, Haatgaon. Other nearby villages are Dahibhat(2.5 km) , Khaniabad(4 km) , Matyari (7.9 km) and Hawakol(8 km).

Once used to be the part of Purnea district, Terrhagachh block has always been a neglected area and battles with several issues including basic amenities like proper connectivity with roads and electricity supply. Najeeb Sagar, a resident of Terrhagachh block says ‘the Kankai River is the biggest sorrow for this area and we badly need a bridge for proper connectivity with other parts of Kishanganj district. The situation worsens during the monsoon season, when the river gets flooded and becomes dangerous as well with high current”. A student of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi, Najeeb Sagar further mentions that Kishanganj MP Asrarul Haque Qasmi promised to begin the construction of bridge on Kankai River from October 2011 but the work is yet to be started. Similarly, the villages in Terrhagachh block don’t have electricity, which is another hurdle for the development of the area, adds Najeeb.

When most of the villages in Kishanganj district especially at Kochadhaman, Bahadurganj and Thakurganj have proper road connection and electricity supply, life is like hell in Terrhagachh mentions the dejected youth. In fact, we find our elected representatives and Bihar Government insensitive in such issues and they do nothing apart from making false claims, complains Najeeb. Belonging to Baigana village, Najeeb during his last summer vacation launched an awareness campaign asking for bridge and electricity with the help of villagers in the area. A group of people led by Najeeb also did street shows / nukkad natak and they met with MP Kishanganj in the Block headquarters with a delegation. The Member of Parliament promised to allocate the budget of Rs. 38 crore to build the bridge on Kankai River. Similarly, the MP and MLA of the area promised for electrification of the area, but nothing has happened.

Unlike Najeeb there are thousands of people from Terrhagachh who feel themselves unfortunate on the sufferings due to absence of basic amenities like roads and electricity supply. It is the role of District Administration, local MLA Tousif Alam and MP Kishanganj Asrarul Haque Qasmi to look into the grievances of common people. Unless the feeling of dejection might lead to unpleasant circumstances in the coming time. The bridge on Kankai River, the sorrow of Terrhagachh is badly needed as it takes the valuable lives of ailing people during normal days and badly during the rainy season.
