Nitish’ Bihar becomes first state to appoint Lokpals in 12 districts, others to follow

The Nitish Kumar led NDA Government of Bihar has given a special importance to ‘Rights of Public’ and techno-pro governance. This past week the Bihar Government had added another feather into its cap, by appointing Lokpals in 12 districts of the state. In fact, Bihar became the first state in India to take such a remarkable step. As per top officials of Bihar Government, the appointment of Lokpals will check corruption in implementation of welfare schemes.

It should be noted, a couple of weeks back the Bihar Government uploaded clips of complaint against officials who allegedly sought bribes to implement welfare schemes. In quick response, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appointed Lokpals to check irregularities in the rural employment schemes. A top official from CM’s office spoke media that Lokpals were appointed in 12 districts of Bihar to curb embezzlement in the implementation of MNREGA funds. As per the official the government is going to appoint Lokpals in all districts next month probably in January 2012.

Nitish Kumar – referred to as the ‘Vikas Purush’ (Development Man) has already declared zero tolerance for corruption in the state and implemented RTI (Right to Information) Act 2005 and Right to Service Act successfully. In many public gatherings Kumar has repeatedly said that ill-gotten property of corrupt officials will be confiscated and their homes turned into schools for financially weak children. The appointment of Lokpals in 12 districts in Bihar is gaining nationwide attention and it is praised abroad as well. Hope the level of corruption will go down at a large extent in Bihar and it can be a source of inspiration for other states of India.
