Blame Game: Sibal lying over AMU Kishanganj Centre, alleges P K Shahi

Patna, November 12, 2011: It seems the controversies of proposed Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Centre in Kishanganj are not going to resolve in near future. The latest addition is the attack of Bihar HRD Minister against Kapil Sibal on his recent remark ‘the AMU Special Centre is already disposed of by Allahabad Court’ before a delegation of AMU Centre Coordination Committee (AMUCC).

This is well known Kabil Sibal of Congress is a renowned lawyer and Shahi of JD (U) was advocate general before he was appointed HRD minister around one year back. After their much-awaited meeting, both are accusing each other of telling lies as far as the establishment of a centre of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Kishanganj goes. After meeting Sibal on November 3, Shahi quoted the Union minister as saying that the Centre would take a decision on an AMU centre after the disposal of the writ petition against the opening of AMU centres outside Aligarh, pending with the Allahabad high court.

However a few days later, when a delegation of AMU Centre Coordination Committee (AMUCC) met Sibal, he refuted giving any assurance to Shahi and even claimed that the writ petition had already been disposed of. On Saturday in his talk with Times of India, Shahi had reacted angrily. "I am really surprised and don't know how to use strong words against a person holding such a high office. He is lying.” He asked, "If the case has already been disposed of, then where is the problem in clearing the Kishanganj project?" "I have information that an LPA has been filed in the Allahabad high court and the court has issued notice to the parties, but the case is yet to be disposed of," he added.

Shahi reiterated his charge that the Centre was playing politics on the issue. However, he asserted, that Congress would not be able to attract Muslims towards itself. "We have fulfilled our responsibilities and allotted the required land for the centre," he said.

What comes out when two ministers of same profiles meet over a controversial issue? Obviously, More controversies! This is exactly what happened when Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal and Bihar HRD minister P K Shahi met in New Delhi on November 3, 2011 to discuss the issue of proposed AMU Centre in Kishanganj. After a long series of blame game targeted to AMU Vice Chancellor and Centre, some hope raised among the AMU centre lovers with the meeting of Bihar Government Minister’s with Sibal. But the meeting has taken another turn, and again it has become a part of another controversy.

Last but not the least, the cross-fire between P K Shahi and Kapil Sibal has not value for the proposed AMU Centre in Kishanganj. Issue is stuck only due to unavailability of 250 acres contiguous land to AMU VC for the proposed centre in Kishanganj. When the Bihar Government will become concerned towards resolving the land transfer issue it is big question in itself? Common people has nothing to do with ongoing blame game between State and Centre governments, they only want AMU, AMU, AMU, AMU in Kishanganj!
