Kishanganj grips into Chhath - Bakrid Celebrations

0
Unity in diversity is unique characteristic of Kishanganj district and Surjapuri area in whole. One can observe the bonding among people in various facets of life including festivities. While the month of September observed lots of happiness and joy because of Eid-ul-Fitr festival, October delighted with festivities of Durga Puja (Dusshera). November started with festival of light Deepawali that dazzled the whole area with colourful lights and diyas.

Unlike whole Bihar and some areas of Uttar Pradesh, the people of Kishanganj celebrated the Chhath Festival with great enthusiasm. The ghats of main rivers, namely Mahananda, Kankai, Ramzaan, Kali, etc. were full of male and female devotees. People offered prayer to Sun God standing in waist deep water with offerings like sweets, thakwa, etc.

Bakrid, a major festival of Muslims is just round the corner. According to moon sighting the festival of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) will be celebrated on November 17 (Wednesday) this year. People are visiting the famous hats and markets of Kishanganj to buy the goats and other allowed animals to sacrifice on the festival day.

On the whole, Kishanganj is a perfect example of communal harmony in the country. The feeling of harmony raises many folds during religious festivals. Setting aside the religious boundaries people celebrate the festivals with equal enthusiasm. Hope such unique harmony among people of Kishanganj would flourish forever.
