Inspiring Story: Anil K Singh grills Electricity Department in Kishanganj

We have become acquainted with negligence of government offices and related issues. In fact, we have created a tendency to compromise and never think out of box to get the solutions. Like other parts of country, in our district Kishanganj too the government offices like Electricity department, Telecom department, Banks, Railway booking counters, etc. we came across negligence of the staffs, and some even demand for bribe. However, hardly anyone from small face-to-face scuffle thinks about taking the judicial process to punish the particular officer and the department as whole.

Recently, Anil Kumar Singh has made a mark by taking action against the Electricity department in Kishanganj. A resident of Bhagat Toli in Kishanganj, Anil Kumar Singh received a wrong Electricity bill that was showing 4617 unit with a demand of around Rs. 10,000. The whooping bill was a big shock for Mr. Anil and he met up with the official of Electricity department for rectification in the bill. Despite Mr. Anil’s repeated visit to the electricity department no one rectified his bill.

At last, Mr. Anil, an active citizen of Kishangnaj decided to take the help of District Consumer Forum and filed a complain about the negligence of electricity department. District Consumer Forum of Kishanganj took prompt action and guided the Executive Engineer of Bihar State Electricity Board to rectify the bill within a month. Besides this, District Consumer Form also ordered the Electricity Department to pay Rs. 2000 to Anil Kumar Singh as compensation and Rs. 500 that the petitioner spent for judicial probe.

Mr. Anil Kumar Singh has really done a commendable job by nabbing the Electricity Department for its negligence and careless attitude. We should take a lesson from Mr. Anil Kumar Singh. Just like Electricity Department, people in Kishanganj face various types of problems almost every day due to negligence and awkward attitude of the government officials. Instead of making it a personal fight with the particular official, we should take the help of Indian judicial system and powerful tools like RTI (Right to Information) Act, Consumer Forum, etc…..
