Despite being an educationally backward district, Kishganj has several good educational institutes. All over the district there are hundreds of government run primary schools, around 10 high schools, one Kendriya Vidyala, one Navodaya Vidyala, one Kastruba Gandhi Girls School, two government affiliated colleges (Marwari College and Nehru College), including two recently added colleges Bahadurganj College and Azad College at Thakurganj.

Besides, the district has dozens of convents, one Medical college (Mata Gujri Memorial Collge) and two Polytechnic Colleges (AJMET and Tauhid Education Trust ITI). Altogether these institutes provide education to students of the district and neighbouring areas.
